Guided autobiography workshop series:
A 4 part series (2.5 to 3 hours each session) in a group format to enhance personal growth and development, jog old memories, improve ability to cope with life transitions, or leave a written legacy for one’s family. This program is for adults who wish to develop personal insights by writing their life story and bringing forth old memories and organizing their personal history.
With the help of a tested thematic structure originally developed by gerontologist, James Birren, this guided autobiography series is a semi-structured process that incorporates autobiographical writing shared within a supportive group context. Writing followed by reading excerpts aloud can be powerfully therapeutic, enhancing mood and practicing memory skills. This workshop is appropriate for cognitively intact older adults as well as those with mild memory impairment who have intact vision and writing ability.
